Hundreds of newly-converted tribal Jews in India's northeastern state of Mizoram feel devastated after New Delhi refused them permission to migrate to Israel following protests by Christian groups, community leaders said Wednesday.

I do not understand what do you mean by Conversion to Catholic=good and Conversion to Judaism = bad?
Mizoram Churches are not against conversion to any other religion but they are against Mizos migrating en mass to Israel. Jews of Mizoram are not simply converting to Judaism, their sole purpose according to them, is to ultimately migrate to Israel which Mizoram churches are against. These protestant Christians can always convert to other religions and the Churches cannot stop them. And they will have no problem if they continue to stay in the state. Besides, Mizoram Protestant Churches really do not endorse their Church members converting to Catholic Church, but they cannot stop either. Faith is a choice and in a secular country like India everyone has the right to exercise what they believe is true. Mizoram Churches are not like RSS, VHP and their associates who will oppose any kind of conversion. Please know this.
samaw, I am appalled that you defend the fact that a free individual on the face of earth is denied from going to a land of his choice through perfectly legal means.
Don't you see the error & duplicity in your logic? Everyone has the right to choose their faith, but not the right to travel or migrate to what their faith tells them to?
Dear Swami, thanks for responding to my response. I should have clarified that these people are not merely converting to Judaism - but they said that all Mizos are the lost tribe of Israel which is ridiculed by most scholars in the region. They are converting to Judaism in order to gain a better life - meaning they are economic migrants on the pretense of being Jews. Conversion itself is not a problem nor migration but to say that Mizos are Israelites is something the Church has always opposed. And Mizos will not probably convert to Judaism if they are not the lost tribe of Israel. Mizos belong to Tibeto-Burman family, they cannot be Middle-eastern men. I could have explained better in the first place. Kindly read it again. Thanks.
